My name is [insert YOUR NAME] and I am a constituent of [insert YOUR CONSTITUENCY]. I am writing to you in relation to the humanitarian assistance for the people of Myanmar suffering from the impact of the attempted coup by the military junta.

Summary

The Myanmar military seized power on 1st February 2021 from the democratically elected civilian government, led by president U Win Myint and State Counsellor Daw Aung San Su Kyi, allegedly claiming that the outcome of November 2020 election was a fraud. The people of Myanmar took to the streets to protest, but these peaceful protests were brutally cracked down by live ammunitions and arbitrary detentions. Further details can be found in “Fourth Report of Session 2021–22, The UK Government’s Response to the Myanmar Crisis.”

The following data shows the estimated number of illegal abductions, extra judicial killings and Internally Displaced People (“IDPs”) due to the nationwide atrocity crimes committed by the military junta.

I am in grave concern that the international community hasn’t done enough to help the people of Myanmar who have lost every aspect of their basic human rights.

I am requesting you to take the following actions to address my concerns above:

- To raise an urgent and effective humanitarian aid requests for the refugees, internally displaced people (“IDPs”) and people who are resisting the military rule by the Civil Disobedience Movement (“CDM”) in Myanmar; 
- To liaise with the UK representatives of National Unity Government of Myanmar (“NUG”)  to identify the areas that are most in need of humanitarian assistance and discuss about the channels that the UK has been providing aids to Myanmar, if there is any; and 
- To demand the UK Government liaise with the National Unity Government of Myanmar for all current and future humanitarian aids to Myanmar, as NUG is the only legitimate government elected by the people of Myanmar.

In your response please outline how you intend to address the above actions on my behalf, as your constituent.  If you’re unable to address this in your capacity, please escalate my letter to the relevant Minister or department.

Please keep me informed of any progress made.
